Setting up SMS and calling
ScoutzOS integrates with Twilio to provide SMS notifications, automated reminders, and calling capabilities. This helps you communicate with tenants through their preferred channel.
What Twilio enables
- Rent reminders sent via text message before and on the due date
- Maintenance updates notifying tenants when request status changes
- Lease notifications for document signing reminders
- Two-way messaging allowing tenants to reply to texts
- Calling for direct communication through ScoutzOS
Step 1: Navigate to Integrations
Go to Settings, then "Integrations." Find Twilio in the list and click "Configure."
Step 2: Enter your Twilio credentials
You will need your Twilio account credentials:
- Account SID found on your Twilio dashboard
- Auth Token found on your Twilio dashboard
- Phone Number the Twilio number you want messages sent from
If you do not have a Twilio account, visit twilio.com to create one and purchase a phone number.
Step 3: Configure messaging preferences
Choose which notifications should be sent via SMS:
- Rent due reminders (configurable timing: 3 days before, 1 day before, on due date)
- Late payment notices
- Maintenance request updates
- Lease document notifications
Step 4: Test the connection
Click "Send Test Message" to verify everything works. Enter your own phone number to receive a test SMS.
Costs
Twilio charges per message and per minute for calls. These costs are separate from your ScoutzOS subscription. Review Twilio's pricing at twilio.com/pricing.
Tenant opt-out
Tenants can opt out of SMS communications at any time by replying STOP. ScoutzOS respects opt-out preferences and switches to email-only notifications for those tenants.
